Sunday Confessional: An Unexpected Prayer to Me (but Really for You)

"Kids say the darndest things...", "Out of the mouth of babes..." There are scads of quotes and cliche's about the unexpected things that filter through a child's brain and trickles...sometimes pours out of their little mouths. Granted upon occasion, you wish the flood gates would stay locked tight (especially in public settings) but every once in a while, a child surprises you with something clever and heart-felt that you never expected.

Just when your about to get tested to see if brick or cement components are a part of your DNA because the head of this child of yours could not possibly get any harder, or you are positive they need some sort of auditory surgery because they obviously cannot hear at all...they do or say something that makes it quite clear that they understand and can completely hear you...100%.

My dear daughter is extremely intuitive.  She picks up on everything...verbal and non-verbal.  Her mind is constantly working and constantly trying to figure things out.  This, of course, tends to make her push the envelope a bit, but we strive to drive that in a positive direction.  She is fully aware that I am a blogger.  She knows I blog.  I'm not exactly sure if she completely knows what that means but she has somewhat of a clue.  She at least knows what my blogs are and what they look like.  She knows that when she sees the editing template in Blogger that I am writing something for my blog.  Mind you I do countless other things on my computer that may or may not be related to blogging, but she seems to know the difference.  She has seen me participate in twitter parties.  She's seen me watch MomTv or when I do a Skype video chat with a friend or client.   As far as how much she really understands about what I do and what it means to me, I never knew until a few nights ago.

Last week (and I cannot remember which day), she was getting ready for bed.  She comes to say good night and makes me and her Dad tell God what we are thankful for, then she says what she is thankful for.  We do our standard thanking for our family and friends, for the world at large, etc, etc.  When it was her turn, she said something that, beyond the shock, I will never forget...

"Thank you God for all of my Mommy's blogging friends because they love her and they make her really happy and she's always happy when she's blogging.  Amen."

The wind was instantly knocked out of me and yes, The ChatterBox was completely speechless.  I hugged her and kissed her.  Daddy told her what a really nice prayer that was and she was off to bed leaving us with gaping mouths shaking our heads in awe.

So there you have it my wonderful blogging buddies.  Even this remarkable five year-old can see just how much this (and you) all means to me.    That night my heart had never been so full.  It helped me remember and will not ever let me forget how every single day of this life I am truly truly blessed!

That is so adorable! Kids are amazing and they really know more about mom and dad than they let on for sure.

Don't you just love moments like that...when we feel so blessed and full of gratitude. And you passed it on to all of us...so now I am thinking about being grateful too. Thank you.

Amidst the unfinished manuscripts, conference calls, belly fat (that just wont go away), piles of laundry, endless to do list, never knowing the answer to "what's for dinner", poopy diapers, and stickers on my walls and furniture; I manage to live an imperfectly inspired life.
